Take the Pledge to Support Montana Families. Protect IVF.

I pledge to take action against attempts to restrict Montanans' access to healthcare, and I'd like to receive email updates with relevant information and opportunities to take action.

For some Montanans, the dream of starting a family is made possible by in vitro fertilization, or IVF.

IVF is a treatment for infertility in which mature eggs are collected from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. Then, one or more fertilized eggs (embryos) are placed in a uterus (where fetuses develop). One full cycle of IVF takes about 2-3 weeks. (1) The procedure can be expensive, and insurance coverage for IVF varies by state. (2)

Anti-abortion extremists are attacking IVF because they want to give rights to an embryo. This is a concept referred to as “fetal personhood” which aims to give rights to fertilized eggs, embryos, and fetuses. If these stages of fertilization were to be given personhood status, healthcare providers could be held criminally liable for providing healthcare.

In 2012, anti-abortion groups tried to put a fetal personhood amendment on the Montana ballot, but they failed to get enough signatures because Montanans didn’t support it. Don't let those with extremist views take away our freedom to decide what's best for our lives and our families.
