Montana Court Blocks Laws Limiting State Payments for Abortion

A Montana trial judge has blocked two new state laws that allegedly eliminate access to abortion for Medicaid patients and others who depend on state money to pay for their care.

Judge Mike Menahan, of the Montana District Court for Lewis and Clark County, issued a preliminary injunction prohibiting the state from enforcing the laws while the case proceeds, organizations representing the plaintiffs said Tuesday. Menahan previously entered a temporary restraining order delaying Montana’s implementation of the provisions until argument on the preliminary injunction.
